About the Position
Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Phlebotomist 2 obtains and prepares specimens for analysis, is trained in Paternity Collections, processes Tissue, PAP, Cytology and blood/swab specimens, etc., for various reference laboratories, enters/batches reference lab orders, prints reports as assigned, answers/routes phone calls, monitors the pneumatic tube system, sorts/files faxes/orders/papers and receives specimens from outreach clinics.
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities:
v High school graduate or equivalent.
v Ability to competently complete on-the-job training provided within the department.
v A minimum of 1 year of previous health care experience in a direct patientcare related role. Prior lab experience preferred.
v Certification as a nursing assistant is preferred not required.
v Current American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Code BLS required. New employees certifywithin three (3) months after hire date.
v Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
v Strong written and verbal skills.
v Basic computer knowledge.
v Basic clerical skills.
v Ability to learn phlebotomy skills and perform phlebotomy procedures competently.
v Ability to communicate with tact and professionalism.
v Flexibility for shift rotation within the department.
